What We Cover in Key Stage 3 Maths
Our KS3 maths tuition closely follows the National Curriculum to ensure consistency with school learning while enhancing understanding through clear explanation and guided practice. The curriculum is delivered sequentially to allow students to make logical connections between concepts and apply knowledge confidently.
1. Number: Students build on their understanding of integers, decimals, and fractions. They develop fluency in calculation techniques, rounding, estimation, and working with powers, roots, and indices. Topics like HCF/LCM, prime factorisation, and standard form are introduced and reinforced.
2. Algebra: Algebra becomes a major focus in KS3. Students learn to simplify expressions, expand and factorise brackets, solve linear equations, and plot graphs. They are introduced to sequences, inequalities, and substitution — all foundational skills for GCSE and beyond.
3. Ratio, Proportion, and Rates of Change: This includes scaling, direct and inverse proportion, percentages, and real-life applications such as recipes, exchange rates, and compound measures. Students gain confidence using ratios in practical contexts and are taught to solve proportional reasoning problems efficiently.
4. Geometry and Measures: Topics cover properties and construction of 2D and 3D shapes, angles, transformations, and congruency. Students also work with perimeter, area, surface area, and volume. There is a strong emphasis on using mathematical instruments and accurate diagramming.
5. Probability: Students learn to describe and calculate probability using fractions, decimals, and percentages. They explore experimental vs theoretical probability and work with sample spaces, frequency trees, and probability scales to support logical reasoning.
6. Statistics: This strand focuses on interpreting and presenting data using graphs, charts, and summary statistics (mean, median, mode, range). Students explore real-life data sets and learn to draw conclusions and make comparisons — skills essential for many subjects.
7. Problem Solving and Mathematical Reasoning: Throughout KS3, our lessons encourage logical thinking, explanation of methods, and multi-step reasoning. Students learn to approach unfamiliar problems with confidence and communicate their mathematical ideas clearly.
Building Confidence in KS3 Maths
At this stage, many students begin to form strong opinions about their own abilities in maths — which is why targeted support is so crucial. Whether your child is struggling with algebra or finding it difficult to retain new information, our tutors offer structured, step-by-step support tailored to their learning style.
We combine curriculum alignment with exam-readiness, building the mathematical fluency that students need to succeed in Year 9 and beyond.
With regular feedback, consistent encouragement, and personalised lesson plans, our KS3 maths tuition creates an environment where students can thrive.
Whether your child is preparing for GCSE, needs to strengthen their KS3 foundations, or just wants to feel more confident in maths class, Jaya’s Academy offers a flexible and supportive approach — online or in-person — that meets learners where they are.
